I joined Haddington Camera Club in late 2019 after seeing a flyer in what was then Gullane Gym, just as I was on the way to the chippy. I liked the friendly atmosphere and the format of the first few meetings – the Location, and Five Images particularly. I help out as the Web Admin, trying not to break these webpages. Incidentally if anyone wants to send me any words or photos for posting I’d be eternally grateful. I try to post a blog page or two every Friday - if you aren’t getting an email notification about that, please let me know.

I started photography as a kid in Manchester. Somewhere I’ve a photo of me trying to photograph the Concorde prototype doing a flypast at Woodford Airshow about 1969 or so, trying to work out how to pan a twin lens reflex, a very cheap Russian clunker of a camera. I think I got a cub scout Photography badge from the photos I took that day. Later dad taught me how to do developing and printing in the cupboard at the top of the stairs at home – a dusty, airless place needing a few extension power leads and multiplugs and a 'Keep Out Mum' sign on the outside. The few prints I have still from those times show enthusiasm and no skill.

These days photography is all for personal pleasure, and lately I’ve 'regressed' back to film again. I’ve a 120mm (6cm x 6cm) medium format film camera, a 5”x4” large format film camera, and I use dad’s Minolta 35mm film camera to complement my digital Canon. My film and darkroom skills are still closer to enthusiastic than skillful, though.
