We had another busy meeting this week, with a members' evening at the Poldrate, starting with a committee meeting.
When we got started proper, Bren showed some recent stormy images of North Berwick beaches. Persistence paid off after what was at first unsuitable weather, until great light allowed some really impressive images.
Next, Pete showed us some images from his travels, showing his preference for desert, snow, and staircases. There were images from Colorado, Svarlbard, Cuba, Lisbon, Brazil, Antarctica, and from much nearer to home.
Paul showed us a favourite book, 50 Portraits by Gregory Heisler ("Gregory Heisler has been described as having 'the eye of an artist, the mind of a scientist, and the heart of a journalist.' He has photographed more than seventy cover portraits for Time magazine, which reside in The (US) National Portrait Gallery."). Explanations of the craft were given along with images of Julia Roberts, George H W Bush, Hugh Grant, and other less well known celebrities.
Michael shared with us some images of a Location - Brimham Rocks (NT), and Knaresborough (nice tourist board video).
Next up was Grace, to show us a new phone app - Kaleidoscope. This week's featured image on this blog is from Grace - an original image of a stained glass window in the Portrait Gallery has been given her Kaleidoscope tratement. After that Grace reminded us of the many presenters we've had over the last few years, usually delivered by Zoom. It's interesting (and inevitable ?) how costs of presenters has increased.
After the break Andy B showed us some of his Photoshop skills, rendering a colour photo of Drew into an impressive and award winning monochrome image. Andy's new book has recently been published, celebrating sixty years of Scottish surfing.
