Tonight’s meeting was Members’ Night which kicked off with Fran showing her 5 Favourite photos and giving us a bit of insight into her photography inclinations. She has a keen interest in nature photography and showed some lovely images of the recently created pond in her garden which is now home to several frogs. Fran is keen to develop her skills more particularly in the field of macro photography.
Bill was next up with his favourite location which surprisingly was from the South of Scotland. He showed some amazing images of snow topped mountains which looked more like what you would expect to see in the Cairngorms. I do think his attitude to snowy conditions is very different from mine though as when I see the snow I think “I am going nowhere in that” Bill sees the snow and thinks what mountain can I be climbing to take some good photos.
Tony Reeves then presented a project that his son had undertaken through the RPS where he had set a task for photographers of taking a photograph of every intersection of gridlines on a map over the whole of the UK. He had also undertaken his own project of photographing every intersection over his local area. Tony also kindly provided us with a map of East Lothian with all the intersections identified. It was an interesting idea and obviously some of the intersections were definitely more photogenic than others. A project waiting to happen?!
Unfortunately Rudolf was unwell and could not present his images but he had sent them in, so we were able to view them in his absence. There were some amazing, recently taken, images of North Berwick and the wild seas we have been experiencing. In particular his 2 photos entitled “what not to do” did make us laugh!
Alastair then gave us a quick trip through editing of some images on Photoshop (although he is definitely not a fan of the subscription plan and he is planning to switch to some free software in the future).
Grace then gave us an update on this year’s exhibition which will be held in St Mary’s Church. The exhibition will open on Saturday 1st June, the formal opening will be held between 1 pm - 3 pm and the Rev Alison McDonald will formally open the event. The exhibition will run until Saturday 29th July.
Members are asked to submit up to 3 images for the exhibition. There will be a themed section again this year, and this year’s theme is East Lothian, and members should submit an additional 1 -2 images which showcase East Lothian.
All images should be WeTransferred to Grace by 23rd April. The Club will have the images printed but if you prefer to print your own images (up to A4 size) you are welcome to do so.
Images will be offered for sale again this year to raise funds for the Club with a percentage being donated to St Mary’s and to the author.
Members of the public will again be asked to vote for their favourite image and the winner will receive the John Apps Trophy.
