Well, I'm so late with this blog post it really was last week's meeting - and what a packed evening it was. Apologies if I've not included something I should have. Featured image is of a Kingfisher on the Esk, by Jon Moore.
Jon showed us some images from off the tourist trail, Cuba; amongst poverty, beauty. Faded doorways, dilapidated roofs, street scenes, - a reminder perhaps that economic sanctions hurt the poorest.
Justyna showed us some images of a location in the US - Croaker, Virginia to be precise. A private farm where one can see an exhibition of 42 massive busts of US Presidents, some up to 9 tonnes and up to 6m high. Remarkable. Who can name 42 presidents ? 10 ? 42 Prime Ministers ? 10 First Ministers (have there been 10 ?). Anyway, it was a very interesting window onto someone's dedication (you might say obsession?).
Next, Richard showed us his impressive holiday photos - ie impressive holiday, impressive photos.
Richard enjoyed a long distance family Route 66 road-trip over nearly 2500 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, California, with the occasional diversion to national parks. Architecture, Kitch, Diners, Landscape, and even some Wildlife. Amazing, and Richard wont be short of images to enter in this year's competition.
Grace showed us some images from closer to home, Street scenes from Edinburgh on a theme of 'Mobile Phones', and Alastair presented some favourite images. Apparently this below is my eye, although there was some uncertainty over that, and it could be Kier Starmer's. (That's a clue, if you're struggling to name 42 PMs).

The deadline has passed for the Season Starter competition, so now your competition secretaries need to do all the much appreciated work of gathering them together for the judge (Davis Kissman) on 15th October, which will be a zoom meeting.
Next meeting is Tuesday 8th October at the Poldrate - a portrait session, with our new studio lights. Thanks to Paul for working out how they all work. We do have a model booked - actually it's Big Ted - but hey if you need some experience of being a portrait model as well as a portrait photographer, go for it. No charge.
