Tuesday saw our second evening of “ In Conversation with” … this time our host was Richard, and he shared images that he took for his Scout Photography badge.
Thanks to his Mum, who kept the album enabling us to see that even in his early days, he applied some of the rules in his photos! Genres covering family, landscape, architecture in Sheffield and Blackpool Illuminations, scout badge well deserved.
Richard says :
"The attached is one of the better ones of the bunch, showing the approach to Peak Cavern in Derbyshire circa May 1983, taken with a Kodak Instamatic 76x by me aged nine."
Michael's chat was interesting and humorous, a great story teller.
He told us about developing photographs with his father, who had built his own darkroom in the house with the help of black out curtains. His first image took us back to a glass plate photo, a work of art in itself with a group of caterpillars on a fern.
Being in the right place at the right time, with Brenda saw him capture the most interesting and wonderful images, the image taken in Copenhagen had to be seen to be believed, as you can see below :
Michael's dedication was apparent in producing panels for the Coastal Communities Museum based in North Berwick (open 9 April - 25 October) around the history of the area. 176 Photoshop Layers, and ultimately 9 feet long ! When Haddington Camera Club celebrated its 70th year, Michael created one for our exhibition.
Fran spoke about her love of nature photography, but reminded us to enjoy the moment and not miss the chance to really see and experience what we photograp. Being Mindful in photography is a great Motto to have.
Fran enjoys nightscape photography sharing a stunning photo of the Aurora taken from Aberlady.
With a love of birds, bees, butterflies & flowers at home. Fran will take similar photos while visiting family in Australia.
Fran will also take photographs when the opportunities arise with a stunning bird photo taken at a fair with Bird of Preys on display.
Davide M also started photography at an early age. He honed his skills as a technical photographer and later took a 2 year photography course at Leigh School of Art. His style has developed and his creativity has been unleashed! Davide can be seen taking photographs whilst cycling and won’t know what the final image will be, we certainly saw an impressionist style.
A stunning detailed photo of the Bass Rock made up of 30 Images, Davide has an interest in watching the changing numbers & types of birds over time.
For Davide colour & creativity go together and I wonder how many of us will try juggling balls and a turntable!!

The Elbe Sandstone Mountains series shows what must be one of the least known spectacular landscapes in Europe. I was struck by how a sea-level photo of rocks on a north Spanish coast resembled views of the Dolomites. And always interesting to see what a photographer from distant airts makes of a landscape more familiar to us – there are a few from Skye.
