This week was our Members Project Evening. Gillian started the evening with her presentation on the challenges of putting on the P6&P7 school musical, describing the work involved including creating the costumes, the stage, all amid the disruption caused by the Covid Lockdown! Gillian also described the school camp and caving expedition where the desire and the dedication of the pupils shone through as they sang underground in a dark and dingy cave. This convinced the teachers that despite the challenges The Lion King would go on. The staff, parents, grandparents and the community all rallied round, and a great show was presented - a great achievement.
Paul’s presentation was inspired by a book called 'Empty' by Ivor Forrest.
Paul presented his interpretation of Abandoned places , houses & things both locally and further afield, which generated conversation around other places to visit.
Then Rudolf showed us a selection of images from his Full Moon project, many taken around Preston Mill and included the recent flooding in the area changing the dynamics of the waterfall. Converting some of those to black & white changed the power and emotion of the image, I wonder how many of us will venture out at the next full moon?
After coffee /tea and biscuits the second half started with Bill who has been converting slides to digital images taken from his first holiday in Europe as a young man. The quality of the images are impressive and it has been wonderful to see his travels.
Bill has shared his memories that captured the history of the time through Germany, Amsterdam, Luxembourg with many other stops. Makes me wonder if the images I take today would if shown 50 years later would be of much interest!
Graham shared his journey round the Glasgow tube stations, with a timescale of 90 minutes he got off at every stop using his phone he took images that captured both the natural world and man made. Lines, colours, shapes are all things that are important and his final crops showed some interesting photos. I feel this could be adapted for our summer programme.
To bring the evening to a close, Tony shared his photo project, he is involved in the University of the third age (U3A) and prepares a photo quiz for the quarterly magazine. He put us to the test with images of statues, with most of them being recognised by at least one member and some useful additional information provided by members.
